History

TRANSSTROY VARNA S.A
was established in 1904 as State Construction Company with the aim to create the transport infrastructure in the region.

The first project, assigned to the Company, was Port of Varna. The construction works started with the creation of the breakwater in the years between 1904 and 1906. Afterwards, behind it, the Port of Varna itself was built.
In the next years followed the development of Varna Shipyard; the participation in the construction of the railway line Varna – Sofia, the ship-repair yard, the building of the Naval Academy of Varna.

After 1950 the company executed all kinds of transport infrastructure projects.
  • Marine infrastructure-Marine Station Varna, Port of Thermal Power Plant Varna, Port of Varna-West,
  • Ferry Complex servicing the line Varna – Ilichovsk
  • Air infrastructure-Varna Airport
  • Railway infrastructure-Doubling and electrification of railway line “Varna – Sofia” and “Varna – Karnobat”
  • Road infrastructure-Road transport enterprises in Varna and Provadiya
  • Landslide and erosion protection of the coastlines

By 1990 the company had completed projects not only in Bulgaria, but also abroad:
  • Jordan – Port of Akaba; first-class roads
  • Ukraine – Port of Reni
  • Iraq – highway Bagdat – Basra
After the political changes in Bulgaria in 1989, the Company experienced a total transformation. In 1992 the Company was set up as PLTD with 100 % state participation. In 1996 the Company was transformed in S.A., and in 1997 was privatized.

During the years after “the transition” the Company constructed the yacht ports in “St. St. Constantine and Elena” and “St. Vlas”; the landslide reinforcement on the Black Sea coast  - Nessebar, Trakata, Panorama, Pisatel, Kavarna – all finished; abrasion protection on Danube riverbanks – Vidin, Dolni Cibar – were under way
