The renewal of the railway and contact network of the Gurkovo - Tvarditsa I

DZZD "INGHTRANSSTROYG" city of Varna, with Partners "TRANSSTROY - VARNA" AD and "INGSTROYENGINEERING" EOOD, completed the implementation of the Contract  11786/01.12.2022 for the construction of the Project: "Renewal of the Railway Track and Contact Network of the Gurkovo – Tvarditsa Intersection with a total length of 7,845m on the 3rd railway line", with the Contracting Authority SE NRIC and financing provided by funds from the Republican budget. The project is a first category according to Art. 137, para. 1, item 1, letter "n" of the Spatial Planning Act (SPA) and Art. 3 of Ordinance No. 1 of 30.07.2003 on the nomenclature of types of construction.
"Railway Interchange Gurkovo - Tvarditsa from km. 245+795 to km 253+640", is part of the route of the "Third Main Railway Line Iliyantsi - Karlovo - Karnobat - Varna Ferry" of our Republican Railway Network. It is located in the Administrative District of Stara Zagora, on the territory of the Municipality of Gurkovo. It is located at the foot of the Eleno-Tvardishki section of the Middle Stara Planina and Eastern Stara Planina. The terrain through which the single electrified Railway Line passes is slightly rugged, mainly in embankments with heights of up to 3m and one-sided trenches. As a result of intensive exploitation during the period 1990. - 2020. without carrying out major overhaul, over time it has been necessary to introduce temporary reductions in the design speed in the Interchange, from Vpr.=100km./h. – with a limitation to Vогр.=70km./h., the most serious and to the highest degree were the detected malfunctions that created prerequisites for endangering the safety of passenger and train traffic.
In order to reduce the costs of ongoing maintenance and guarantee the safety and security of railway transport in the railway section, with the aforementioned Contract for the implementation of the Public Procurement, SE NRIC assigned our Association the engineering implementation of this urgent capital repair, with a complete renewal of the Superstructure of the Railway with a new UIC60 type rail-sleeper grate, a screened and filled ballast prism, a new BRP, new Drainage of the route with lined and earth ditches, and a completely renewed Contact Network with a Pole Line of Metal Poles and Elements of KM, as well as Medium Repair of Large and Small Railway Facilities in the Section - including 3 pcs. Metal Bridges, 10 pcs. Culverts and a Railway Crossing with a new elastic pavement at km. 245+815.

By carrying out the repair of the Railway and the Contact Network in accordance with modern technical standards for maintenance and repair, as well as through the engineering change and updating of basic technical parameters of the Railway and KM in the Section, we, as the Contractor of the Project, guarantee after its completion, its accident-free future operation, security and safety of train movement and their reliability, as for the Gurkovo - Tvarditsa Intermediate Station with a length of 7,845 m., the following will be achieved:
1.) Management of train operation in the Railway infrastructure, in compliance with the requirements for safety, reliability and security, guaranteeing reliable operation and safety of transportation.
2.) Speed conditions, with permanent restoration of the design speed Vpr.= Vexpl.=100km./h., with a guaranteed stable Train Movement Schedule;
3.) Traffic capacity, enabling effective use of directions on the Railway network.
4.) Reduction of the costs for the current maintenance of the Railway, the Facilities and the Contact Network;
5.) Improved and updated the parameters of the Railway through:
5.1./ replacement of the rail-crosser grid and restoration of the Vpr.;
5.2./ restoration of the design parameters of the Railway;
5.3./ removal of existing dimensional violations;
5.4./ restoration of the drainage facilities;
5.5./ restoration of the old and creation of a new reference, where one is missing. in geometric terms and as a structure,
Thus, with the recent commissioning of the Renewed Railway Track and Contact Network of the Gurkovo - Tvarditsa Interchange with a total length of 7,845m on the 3rd railway line, the main objectives of the Investment Project of the Contracting Authority, SE NRIC, will be achieved, namely:
❖ Reducing the costs of current maintenance of the railway track and facilities;
❖ Increasing the maintenance interval to 25-30 years, due to the use of a heavier type of superstructure (from type 49 to type 60 kg/m);
❖ Reducing the need for human resources and mechanization in operational maintenance;
❖ Reducing the costs of materials necessary for the maintenance of the rail-tie grate;
❖ Reducing the noise from the newly constructed unguided rail track and increasing the smoothness of movement;
❖ Travel comfort to retain existing and attract new customers;
